To provide a fun and positive experience that will instill a lifelong love of skating. Something happens the moment your kid’s skates touch the ice. It's surreal. Empowering. It’s the experience where kids learn much about skating, and themselves. Your child learns glides, swizzles, edges and crossovers. Your child learns positivity, confidence and personal strength.
Our certified instructors’ credentials include: 30+ years of competitive skating experience, 20+ years of coaching experience, 20+ years directing and developing skaters and instructors. Our coaches complete required continued education before the start of each skating season. HFSC Coaches bios linked here.
Brand New to Skating? That’s Perfect!
Anyone, at nearly any age can learn how to skate! HFSC’s Learn to Skate (LTS) program introduces people of all ages to the sport of figure skating. We start our younger, beginning skaters, ages 4-6 in Snowplow Sam classes. The curriculum is designed to keep little ones engaged and having fun, all while learning the basics of ice skating. New skaters, ages 7-13 begin the Basic 1 class where they learn beginning skills at a slightly faster pace. We also offer classes for new teenage and adult skaters that allow advancement on a more individualized basis, Adult Basic Skills. Skaters are placed in the appropriate level, based on age and skill level assessments from our Learn to Skate director or experienced staff. New skaters can begin lessons at the start of any Learn to Skate session during the first class of the session.
Thinking about other ice disciplines? No problem! The Basics are all the same!
If you have a skater interested in moving into the Helena hockey program we can prepare him/her too! The basics of learning to skate are all the same. Whether your skater has their sights on jumping and spinning, speeding around a track, scoring the winning goal, or knowing how to skate for fun, the Learn to Skate program is the best way to start!
